Most area schools drop mask requirement after Pritzker rule suspension

SPRINGFIELD – Most schools across the state have dropped the mask mandate for students and staff after the Illinois Joint Committee of Administrative Rules voted to suspend the Governor’s attempt to reissue emergency COVID-19 measures. Students who take the bus will still be required to wear a mask due to Federal Department of Transportation rules that were not rescinded. Governor J.B. Pritzker announced earlier in the week that the indoor masking requirements in many indoor locations in the state excluding schools would be lifted on February 28th. A Sangamon County Judge ruled last week that the Governor overstepped his authority in issuing emergency orders last fall.
