Local unemployment up in area counties


 
UNDATED – Local county unemployment rates in LaSalle, Putnam, and Bureau counties increased at the start of the year. According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, statewide unemployment remained at a steady 5%, however, LaSalle, Putnam, and Bureau counties increased by at least 2% in January. LaSalle County has the highest unemployment rates locally at 6.4%, Putnam second at 6.3%, and Bureau at 5.7% compared to 3.7% in December.  Deputy Governor Andy Manar said the IDES is encouraged by the continued positive trajectory of Illinois’ economy in 2022.
