IVCC plans special events for community college month

OGLESBY – A student-led industry fair, spring musical, Earth Day cleanup and Spirit Day highlight Illinois Valley Community College’s April celebration of Community College Month. The national observance showcases how community colleges serve local needs, provide workforce training and seamless transfer to universities. Community colleges like IVCC deliver higher education to students with the fewest resources and the greatest obstacles to overcome – and ensure a college education is accessible to all.
The 27th annual MIMIC Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 in CTC124-125. Making Industry Meaningful in College (MIMIC) showcases products designed, built and sold by students.
The opening reception for the IVCC Art Show Case is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 23. The collection of works by IVCC students in the E208 Humanities division hallway will be on display through May 9.
An Earth Day clean-up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23 will be conducted by IVCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter in partnership with The Perfectly Flawed Foundation. The group will gather at the Illinois and Michigan Canal Lock 14 shelter in LaSalle.
“Broadway Backward,” the theatre department’s spring musical, is 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday April 22 and 23 and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24 in the Cultural Centre. Tickets are $10.
Lori Brown of Buddy’s Purpose will present to the One Book, One College program at noon Wednesday, April 27 in the Cultural Centre. Brown will provide insight into how families cope with addiction; the film “Four Good Days” will be shown.
Spirit Day, Wednesday, April 27 in the courtyard, features food, games, music and information about clubs and organizations.
