OTTAWA – A Sandwich man is found guilty of killing his ex-wife’s parents last year in Sheridan. On Friday at the LaSalle County Courthouse, a jury found 38-year-old Donald Fredres guilty of shooting and killing his ex-wife’s parents 62-year-old Greg and Brenda Barnes at their home in Sheridan in March of 2021. According to State’s Attorney Todd Martin during closing arguments, the crimes were premeditated, and Fredres intended on killing his ex-wife, Janelle Johnson that evening. Defense Lawyer Ryan Hamer argued that the crimes were not planned out and Fredres just wanted to see his children. Fredres did not testify. He is also charged with attempted murder of Johnson for firing shots into her home.He faces the possibility of life in prison at a hearing scheduled for July 1st.
