UNDATED – Gas prices are back up nationwide as crude prices increase, according to the American Automobile Association. The AAA says pump prices will likely face upward pressure as oil prices remain above $105 per barrel. In Illinois, the statewide average for gas per gallon is currently, $4.56, 15 cents more than a week ago. Local area counties are reflecting higher pump prices as well, the most expensive being Putnam County, at $4.55 per gallon. LaSalle County is not far behind, averaging $4.45 cents, and Bureau at $4.40 cents per gallon. Crude prices rose after the European Union announced a proposal to ban Russian oil imports within six months, while refined product imports would be prohibited by the end of 2022. It’s not clear if the plan will be approved as some members of the 27-nation bloc, such as Slovakia, have stated they will seek exemptions because they need more time to find alternatives to Russian oil.
