OTTAWA – The first wave of extremely hot weather will arrive in North Central Illinois today through Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that goes into effect this afternoon for the scorching temperatures expected this week. They say paired with the high humidity, the heat index values could reach up to 109F degrees. Authorities remind everyone over the next few days to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
