Over 50 veterans honored at ceremony in Peru

PERU – The LaSalle County Veterans Assistance Commission hosted a special event on Saturday to honor those that have served in the armed forces from 1955-1975. A Vietnam Veterans lapel pin and a certificate was given to over 50 veterans who gathered at the commission office. AllenForce, a charity organization from Plainfield, helped organize the event. Lissa Olson with the LaSalle County Veterans Assistance Commission, wanted to bring a recognition and welcome home ceremony to the area.
“A lot of veterans when they came back from the Vietnam War were not welcomed with open arms” Olson noted, “a lot of that has changed, but we want to make it known we appreciate them and what they did for our country”

The Founder and CEO of AllenForce, Donna Allen-Rielage, has organized similar events in the suburbs to honor those that have served in all branches of the military.
“It’s just such an honor to be able to be a part of welcoming them home” Allen-Rielage said Friday, “The reactions I’ve seen across the board is overwhelming.”
