OTTAWA – The City of Ottawa is reminding residents that dumping anything into storm drains is illegal. The city noted that almost everything that goes into an inlet will eventually end up in the nearest waterway, like Goose Creek, the Fox River, or the Illinois River. They also noted that mowing grass clippings into the street is also prohibited. Grass clippings can clog storm drains, increase flooding, degrade water quality and floodplain habitat. Ottawa officials say if you see or suspect illegal dumping in storm drains or see grass being mowed into streets contact the City to report the location.
