STREATOR – Streator officials are opposed to the idea of allowing chickens within city limits. After proposals from residents to raise chickens in town, Streator’s committee plans to vote against it and update the city’s current ordinance. On Tuesday, concerns like the attraction of predators, waste management, and patroling were raised by residents and members of the council. Officials agreed to revise the city’s current ordinance to make clear that neither commercial nor residential properties are allowed to raise chickens in Streator. Committee members will review the modified ordinance at their next meeting in April and will vote on the revision at the following city council meeting.
