ROCKFORD – A man is dead after sustaining injuries in an alleged attempted home invasion in Rockford Thursday. According to the Rockford Police Department, during the early morning hours, the 44-year-old attempted to break into a home on the west side of Rockford. Police say the suspect attempted to force entry via a door, then through a window and struck a resident with a piece of lumber. A male resident reportedly stabbed the suspect in the neck/shoulder area with a kitchen knife. Authorities say the injured individual fled and was located in the street in front of the residence. Rockford Police arrived and began life-saving measures, but the suspect succumb to their injuries at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
