MENDOTA – A dog was rescued after falling into a pond in Bureau County Wednesday morning.   The Mendota Fire Department was called to a residence in the 35000 block of 2800 North Rd around 6:40 a.m.   Authorities said the family was walking the leashed dog, described as a Rottweiler on their property, when it ran onto a pond and fell through.  With temperatures in the single digits firefighters first attempted to use a pole to hook the leash, but the dog was not able to be pulled out.   A Mendota Firefighter then donned a special Ice Water Suit, entered the pond and rescued the dog.    Once on land, the dog was able to move on its own and was taken inside the home to warm up.
