On August 26, 1919, women were finally given the right to vote after Tennessee’s ratification was received in the early morning hours of August 26th through the 19th amendment. Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed it into law without a ceremony. It was signed in his home where there was no television or photographers to capture the historic event.
