Illinois Valley Community College’s Dental Assisting Program has begun their free/reduced-cost dental clinics for IVCC students, staff and the community.
Clinics are 8 a.m. to noon Fridays February through May (excluding Feb. 22, March 8 and 15) in the Dental Lab (B214).
Patients can call (815) 224-0227 to schedule an appointment for a comprehensive exam and X-rays. Qualifying patients will then be scheduled for a cleaning ($30 or free if IVCC student, faculty or staff), sealants (free) or full mouth series of X-rays (free).
Dental assisting program coordinator Heather Seghi said, “Our students are excited to start their clinics to hone their skills. They need a required number of patients, so reliable patients are desired as there is not time for rescheduling missed or canceled appointments.
“We do have outside resources for those unable to have the cleaning completed in our clinic, and we are very happy to help in any way we can to ensure they receive the best care,” she added.
Last year’s clinics scheduled over 106 appointments and attending doctors found several undiagnosed conditions ranging from a fractured tooth under a crown, an abscess, wisdom teeth impaction and rampant decay caused by xerostomia (dry mouth).
