IVCC Peace Labyrinth

September 24, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Illinois Valley Community College’s Office of International/Multicultural Education and the IVCC Diversity Team will host the Peace Labyrinth: Quilting and the Golden Rule exhibit Monday, Sept. 24 in CTC 124-125at IVCC.
The exhibit, which includes 21 quilts highlighting world religions and their core belief in peace, will be on loan for the day from the Dayton International Peace Museum.
The quilts were designed and made by artist Karen McTavish, who had a vision after Sept. 11, 2001, that inspired her to create the collection. In addition to viewing the quilts, visitors can hear one of two lectures given by Peace Museum board member and Professor of Sociology at Sinclair Community College, Dr. Katherine R. Rowell.
The lectures will be at noon and 5 p.m. and will include a discussion of both the artistry and the symbolism of the quilts, as well as the need for a greater understanding among the diverse peoples of the world.
The event is free and open to the public. For information, contact Amanda Cook Fesperman at amanda_cookfesperman@ivcc.edu.
